Many famous people from around the world have taken up residence in Toronto.
Amelia Earhart, Shania Twain, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, Prince, Mary Pickford, Elizabeth Arden, Buckley's cough syrup inventor and an exiled Romanoff royal... just a few.
This site attempts to list the famous one-time residents and chronicle their stay here.
Their stay didn't have to be long to be considered a Torontonian. The point of this site is to show the many interesting people that passed through TO and helped shape the City.
Despite what Torontonians may think (and definitely what the rest of Canadians think) a lot of interesting and entertaining things have happened in this City. This site attempts to document these happenings.
But I need help... so please help fill in details of the famous or notable people's stays in Toronto. Where they lived or worked. What places they haunted, what they liked or disliked about the city, anything...
Don't worry about filling in a lot of detail - just jot down a point or two.
If you have a source that's great - if not please indicate when something is unsubstantiated. Just no slander or libel, please!
A resident is considered anyone who stayed in Toronto with some intention of permanence or a long-term stay. Someone is considered famous if their fame extends beyond Canada or at least Ontario. Toronto is considered to be not only the new "megacity" but also bordering burbs as well.
NOTE ON COPYRIGHT: While I intend to operate this as a wiki indefinitely, I would, ideally, one day like to publish this topic in a book. As such, I retain full copyright of all material on this site. (This would be a local history book so it's not like I'll make any money on it.) Wetpaint, the host of this site, has a standard Creative Commons license that applies to this site (and it's one I agree with). Any significant or sizable contributions will be acknowledged in any future effort regardless of medium.
